Credit Card Fees Explained - Application Fee

When you are about to apply for a new credit card or have recently acquired one you suddenly realize there is a plethora of fees that can be associated with having a credit card.

The first fee you might be faced with is an application fee. This a charged by some credit card companies when you apply for their credit card. The amount can be from $10 to $50 per application. The fee is a one time charge only.

You don't necessarily see the application fee with some credit cards but frequently you encounter it when applying for a secured credit card.

The application fee can be waived by the credit card company. When you are applying for a credit card ask if the fee can be waived. Alternatively you can apply for a card that specifies upfront that they do not charge an application fee.
