How to report a stolen or lost credit card
Losing a credit can cause unwanted stress and headache. Taking quick action by reporting the credit card lost - or stolen, can limit any damage to the minimum.
If you can not find your credit card anywhere or it was stolen you need to call the card issuer's customer service number as soon as possible. Don't hesitate or wait.
You can find the customer service number on your billing statement or online at the company website. You may be able to do the report online at the company website as well.
Have you account number ready along with information about when you noticed the card missing or if it was stolen, when and where that happened. It is also helpful if you remember the last time you used the card and for what amount.
After you have verbally reported the card lost or stolen, send a written statement that the card was lost with the same information that you gave over the phone. This way you will have proof that you indeed reported the lost card.
It is important to report the lost card as soon as possible to avoid any unauthorized charges on the credit card. You are protected by the Fair Credit Billing Act and you will not be liable for any unauthorized charges made after you report the card lost or stolen.
